Samba Films

Samba Films was established in New York City by Toland Samba (Director/Producer) alongside fellow filmmakers who all attended the New York Film Academy together, and who also share a similar sensibility and passion for developing new projects.

Toland Samba

(Director/Producer)

Toland Samba (known as “Samba”) spent most of his formative years in South Africa where he studied at the Photography Institute prior to moving to New York City to attend the New York Film Academy. At NYFA Samba directed, produced, and edited “Jocelyn the Muralist,” a short-subject documentary film, which won several awards at various film festivals. Since then he has worked on numerous award-winning films: Reference (Toland Samba-IMDb page).

 

Samba has also worked as a casting coordinator, French voice-over artist for BORN FREE Media, a program on HIV/AIDS awareness for youth, and on occasion he has also facilitated translation between businesses (English-French) drawing on his linguistic skills and international experience.

MIKU OTAGIRI

(CINEMATOGRAPHER)

Miku Otagiri is a Japanese documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and editor based in New York City. After completing her BA in cinematography at Nihon University College of Art, she started working at a local TV station in Fukushima, Japan as a news camera operator and editor. She worked on a number of projects including two years of intensive filming and editing video coverage of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake/tsunami, and the resulting Daiichi nuclear disaster.

 

She moved to New York to study at the New York Film Academy, and to increase her expertise with documentaries and filmmaking in general. Her most recognized work is “For The Birds” (2017), a short-subject documentary film about a man in New York City who advocates for environmental awareness in upper Manhattan, a film that film won several Awards.

ANICE JEE

(EDITOR)

Anice Jee is a Moscow born visual artist currently based in New York City. Anice studied journalistic photography in her native Russia at Moscow State University, which helped her to develop skills as both a storyteller and visual artist. She then moved to Hyderabad, India, where she completed her Master’s studies in Radio and Video production at Hyderabad Central University.

 

She then moved to New York to attend New York Film Academy. After completing the program she stayed in the city working as a freelance videographer and artist. She also worked as an instructor at P.I. Art Center teaching Video Editing, Video Production, Mobile Video, as well as photography courses.
